This research presents a novel method for synthesising ammonia (NH3) using sonochemistry as an alternative to traditional techniques. This study demonstrates that using a probe sonicator can reduce alkali metal nitrate salts to form NH3 with a cost-effective catalyst. GaO(OH) significantly boosts the sonochemical reduction of nitrate, increasing the NH3 yield to around 32 ± 11 μg h−1. This technique offers a promising, atom-efficient pathway for ammonia production from nitrate-containing water.
